Our vertical focus affords us the ability to cover a category in greater depth and breadth than most online health resources. For example, we have over 30 articles on spondylolisthesis alone and more than 80 articles on Cushing’s Syndrome. In addition, our properties offer hundreds of articles each on larger categories such as; diabetes, ADHD, depression, thyroid disorders, sciatica, chronic pain and many other conditions across our verticals. For many conditions, there is more than one treatment paradigm. Different physicians have different opinions on standard of care. As a quality source of health information, our mission has always been to cover diseases based on multiple treatment paradigms. While we believe in evidence-based medicine, we also understand there is a place for alternative treatments, and we have a responsibility to present such information to our community.
Vertical Health recognizes that each individual, whether patient or professional, comes to us with a unique question and informational need. It is our responsibility to deliver the most appropriate content possible to the information-seeker. Standards of care and treatment guidelines are evolving and advancing at a rapid pace; Vertical Health makes every effort to keep up with the latest technologies and therapies shaping tomorrow's care. Our readers (patients & health care professionals) rely on us to have the most up-to-date and information available.
While it's great that we have developed a best-in-class library of content, the content fails if it is not found and understood by those who need it. We are more than just an online publisher: we publish quality health content, whether it's online or in a patient education brochure or in a regularly distributed journal, etc., thereby reaching our patient and professional communities with a relevant voice that in platforms (print, web, mobile) that work best for them. We are also developing easy-to-use mobile apps that will allow our specialized communities to interact with our content in ways appropriate for their work flow and/or their conditions.
Especially when writing about health conditions, medications and treatments, it is critical that the information is thorough and well vetted by experts in the appropriate category (or “vertical”). Nearly all content published by medical professionals on Vertical Health properties is peer-reviewed by established experts with knowledge of the topic covered.
Health information should not only be education, but it also needs to inspire confidence and action. Whether it is action as a healer, as with a healthcare professional, or as a patient who needs to understand their condition, Vertical Health is looking to provide information that encourages and uplifts. David Ganz
Chief Executive Officer

Prior to joining Vertical Health, David was a part-owner of Total Health Rewards (THR) and Inception Digital (formerly ESSRX). David served as the Chief Marketing Officer and Managing Director at THR and Inception Digital.

David has been in the healthcare arena since 1994. He worked at Oxford Health Plans (now United Healthcare) for 5 years building and leading the team that managed Oxford’s HCP and hospital networks in New York. David then spent 6+ years at Medsite, up through its acquisition by WebMD. At Medsite, David was responsible for sales and operations across several pharmaceutical marketing-focused products. After the acquisition of Medsite by WebMD, David acquired Medsite’s fulfillment business (now Total Health Rewards) and successfully grew it to be a sustainable business through improvements in revenue and margins.

As an outgrowth of Total Health Rewards, David helped to launch Inception Digital, which is now the leader in satellite broadcasting, webcasting and webconferencing for pharmaceutical clients. David maintains a consultative role with THR and Inception Digital and is an Advisor to the Wifi-focused start-up, SocialSign.in.

Brent Phelps
Chief Operating Officer

Brent is a start-up veteran with more than 15 years experience in product, marketing, operations, & business development roles, and a solid track record of successfully scaling digital media businesses. Prior to Vertical Health, Brent was the COO of Adprime Media, which he helped grow into the largest ad network in the health vertical (85mm monthly uniques).

Before Adprime Media, Brent was a co-founder of Healthguru Media, which became the largest health video portal on the internet (more than 50mm monthly video views). Brent has also held various other roles including; VP of Online Marketing at Flix55 (an early consumer video sharing site), VP of Marketing at PunchStock (a stock photography company), and VP of Product Management at Index Stock Imagery (the first digital stock photography company).

Brent is currently an Advisor to Winescan LLC (an app for wine enthusiasts) and serves on the board of City Limits (a nonprofit news agency founded in 1976), and DataNeutrality.org (a nonprofit focused on consumer privacy standards in digital data collection).

Evan Persky
Chief Financial Officer

Evan is a financial executive with significant experience developing private and public middle market growth companies. In this capacity, Mr. Persky has served as CFO, Director of Strategy & Planning, board member, investor and consultant for several private and public companies. Evan has transacted over $500 million in acquisitions, corporate growth capital financings and divestitures. He has led various aspects of corporate and strategic development activities including joint ventures, technology licensing and mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he has worked as a principal investor involved in all aspects of deal sourcing, acquisition, strategic plan development, management recruiting, and capital markets structuring and execution. Evan currently sits on several private company boards of directors. He received an AB from the University of Chicago.

Robert D. Bedford
Sr. Vice President Sales and Strategy

As Senior VP of Sales & Strategy, Rob will manage the growth of Vertical Health’s sales team and help to guide Vertical Health’s development of unique and cutting-edge tools and tactics that will meet our clients’ evolving needs. Rob is a 30-year industry veteran with experience building and leading teams in many successful pharmaceutical marketing services companies from startups to Fortune 20. He joined Vertical Health in 2017 from M3 USA, the domestic division of M3, a $900 million global healthcare technology company traded on the Japanese stock exchange. Prior to that Rob was at Doximity, the largest physician social networking site, and was EVP Sales and Marketing at MediScripts, the leading point of care advertising company. Rob was VP of Sales at Bulletin Healthcare which delivered eNewsletters via top medical associations such as ASCO, AMA, and APA.  In earlier roles, he served as SVP Sales and Client Relations at InfoMedics, the largest patient feedback company in the world which was acquired by Physicians Interactive (now Aptus Health). Rob was Chief Sales Officer at Lathian Systems (founded as MyDrugRep.com) where he led the eDetailing company to its first profitable years. Rob also served as a VP Business Unit Director at Cardinal Health, HMS Division, specializing in multichannel medical education programs for several blockbuster pharma brands. 

The first half of his career was spent on the manufacturer side of the business in roles of increasing responsibilities at SmithKlineBeecham (now GlaxoSmithKline) and Knoll Pharmaceuticals (now AbbVie). Rob holds an MBA in Pharmaceutical Marketing from St. Joseph’s University where he was also an adjunct professor teaching pharmaceutical sales management. He holds a BA in advertising and public relations from the University of South Carolina where he was also an All-American swimmer.

Alex Coletta
Vice President, Product Development

Alex has worked in online in both direct-to-physician (DTP) and direct-to-consumer (DTC) healthcare marketing for more than 15 years. Prior to Vertical Health, Alex was the Director of eServices for Thomson Healthcare. In this role, he worked across multiple Thomson Healthcare divisions and was responsible for developing interactive, online products for physicians and worked with the PDR product teams to extend PDR.net's offering.

Alex was previously the Senior Interactive Developer for Medsite (acquired by WebMD), where he developed their proprietary eDetailing marketing platform and designed eDetails for more than 30 pharmaceutical brands. He also worked extensively on physician targeting and recruitment for online programs including market research surveys, eDetails, physician-loyalty programs, and continuing education.

Alex has more than 20 years of digital marketing and creative experience including SEO/SEM/PPC, email marketing, branding/identity, social media marketing, UX/UI design, and web application design. Alex currently heads up Vertical Health's internal creative team.

Roy Baxter
Vice President, Technology

Roy is responsible for information technology policies and systems at Vertical Health. Roy is a PHP and Drupal developer with nearly 15 years of experience open-source web development. If we can dream it up, Roy can build it.

Prior to joining Vertical Health in 2008, Roy was the Director of Multimedia Services at KnowledgePoint 360 Group (now Ashfield Healthcare Communications), where he oversaw the development and maintenance of a wide array of health-focused media products. Roy started his career with nearly a decade at Thomson Physician World.

Roy is well known among developer circles as a “master developer” who continues to contribute meaningfully to the open source community.

Sharon Callahan

For more than 30 years, Sharon Callahan has delved into all aspects of strategic healthcare marketing, and gained sharp skills in numerous disciplines including advertising, medical education, clinical programs, publishing, and digital. Sharon has spent her career helping clients to leverage the value of their messages through the seamless integration of multiple communication channels, making sure that every message is on point at every contact point. From speaking at industry conferences, to authoring articles in professional publications, to managing global consolidations for blue chip healthcare clients, Sharon uses her boundless energy to promote good communications and maximize sales.

Sharon is CEO of TBWA\WORLDHEALTH, the Disruption company and an integrated healthcare communications and creative collective that has global capabilities in professional, consumer, and economic buyer promotion as well as public relations.

Sharon was well trained for her current role, as prior roles included; CEO & President of LLNS, Chief Client Officer for Omnicom Health Group and EVP and Director of DAS Healthcare, Division of Omnicom Group. Sharon was Chief Digital Strategist at GHG and president of Summit Grey, an interactive agency born out of a company she co-founded, The Summit Group. Sharon had the good fortune to hone her skills at two entrepreneurial companies — Medsite.com (now WebMD) and SCP Communications, where she spent 15 years getting some of the best experience in the industry. An avid supporter of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association, Sharon served as their President in 1997 and in 2005. In addition to the HBA, Sharon serves on the Board of the Coalition for Healthcare Communications, and the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame, and volunteers for other worthy causes related to healthcare. In June of 2014, Sharon was recognized by the Women’s Venture Fund with its “Highest Leaf Award”. This award celebrates exceptional women who have demonstrated strong business leadership and made substantial contributions to their respective industries.

Phil Harris

Phil is the CEO and co-founder of Geofeedia, a location-based social media monitoring platform. Prior to Geofeedia, Phil was a Managing Director and founding principal of Maren Group. Prior to Maren, Phil co-founded Alterity Partners, a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm, which was acquired by First Horizon National (NYSE: FHN). Prior to Alterity, Phil held a variety of operating roles at priceline.com (SVP of Corporate Development), Cendant Corporation (GM of Interactive Services), and Nordson Corporation (Director of Marketing). In addition to Vertical Health, Phil serves as a Board Member for Social Growth Technologies. Phil received a BS in finance from Ohio State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Richard Molloy

Richard is a principal and co-founder of Florida Gulfshore Capital, a venture investment company. He serves as a board member or observer for several companies, including Vertical Health, Pathfinder Therapeutics, Prioria Robotics, and Dietbetter.

Previously, Richard was a principal in Booz Allen & Hamilton's Consumer and Industrial Products and Healthcare practice. Prior to Booz Allen, Richard served as a Captain in the British Army, in a Commando Engineer Unit and then with the Defense Mapping Agency in Washington, DC. He has a BSc in Civil Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University (England) and an MBA from Yale University School of Management.

Michael Packard

Michael is currently President and CEO of High Performance Optics, Inc., a technology company aimed at helping to improve vision and prevent blindness. From 1989 to 1999, Mike served as Executive VP and Chief Administrative Officer at LensCrafters and was instrumental in creating the most successful optical retailer in the world and one of the most successful overall US retailers. Prior to his role at LensCrafters, Michael held a variety of positions at Procter & Gamble from 1971-1987. In addition to Vertical Health, Mike also serves as a Board Member for Champion Window Co. and eVision Inc.

Michael has a chemical engineering degree (Bucknell 1970) and an MBA concentrating on organizational behavior and leadership (Virginia 1972). Continued education includes the Change Leadership Program (Wharton) and the Retail Executive Program (Harvard). In his consulting practice, TransCat Consulting, Michael facilitates unique workshops in areas such as Conflict Management, Writing to Get What You Want, Strategic Planning, Priority Setting & Action Execution, and Leadership Development.
